The 2021 Australian International Pedal Prix has been cancelled. The jewel in the crown of the UniSA Australian HPV Super Series held at Murray Bridge in South Australia will not go ahead this year. In a season which started with much promise and saw the running of the first three rounds of the Series, COVID restrictions, and uncertainty, has produced a risk scenario preventing the organisation proceeding with the event in 2021.
The decision was made at a meeting of the Board of the organisation last night. It considered a multitude of factors which currently exist regarding the pandemic including its impact on neighbouring states, particularly Victoria and associated border restrictions, and the significant risk of cancellation after infrastructure expenditure commitment. Additionally, the South Australian Department of Health had advised there was an expected period of at least four weeks before a decision would be made on the issuance of a COVID Management Plan, if it was to be approved at all.
The multitude of factors has left the organisation with no alternative but to make this sad decision, which is made in the best interests of the organisation, teams, and the health and wellbeing of the community.
