Members of the AIPP Inc. Board accompanied by a dozen or so team representatives visited The Bend Motorsport Park yesterday to consider the venue for its potential to host a round of the UniSA Australian HPV Super Series.
The Tailem Bend based circuit is a purpose built motor racing facility and has since shown its versatility in hosting additional sports such as cycling and duathlon.
The visit was hosted by General Manager of the venue, Mark Warren who provided a guided tour of the many areas and attributes available.
Of substantial interest was the venue’s capability to host events in constrained conditions. “How long COVID restrictions remain in place is unknown, so it is important that future HPV racing events are designed with this in mind. The Bend offers a good opportunity in this sense. Clearly designated and delineated pit spaces, pit lane and team parking are an excellent start” commented AIPP Inc Chairman Andrew McLachlan.
The group was shown track layout options, the pit complex from pitwall to rear of garage, circuit control room, and viewing areas including the rooftop deck.
Additionally, the 2016 completed complex has food and beveridge service, hotel accommodation, and a motoring museum.
The Board met last night to discuss and further consider the venue and preparations for the 2021 season, and has scheduled a planning day for 8 October 2020 with a view to working through final details.
“Next year’s calendar is starting to take shape, and we are aiming to produce a robust series of events which can function in the current COVID environment. The next few weeks will start to see what the 2021 season will look like. We can now focus our attention on getting HPV’s back on the track” stated McLachlan.
